James 1: 2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
Phil, your going to go through tough times - your wife will lose a family member and will hurt deeply; your son will get sick; your wife will need surgery on her mouth; your friends will need you; your family will need you; your furnace will stop working; your car will break down; your finances will be stretched beyond their means; your ministry will hit speed bumps and road blocks; you’ll struggle with how to deal with it all, how to lead in it all, how to serve in it all; you’ll fail, you’ll break; you’ll realize your dependence lies in something completely outside yourself…but don’t give up or get angry. Count it joy because I am working…
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Phil, you know that I’m making you stronger, I’m making you more, I’m allowing you to become more than you could have been on your own. It may be hard, but believe Me, it’s worth it. Because of it, you’ll see things differently, you’ll see them a little more as how I see them, and because of that, you’ll be able to stand more firm in those situations later.
5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
Phil, remember that you’re not Me. You will need Me to get through these kinds of things. Your judgement gets clouded by your sin and fear but Mine will not. You need to ask Me for help and when you do, I will give it. I won’t hold your weakness against you. I’ll give you more help than you know what to do with. It may not look how you expected, but it’ll be there.
6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; 8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
Phil, believe in Me. Not just in the churchy words you’re used to saying, but for real. Believe that I’m bigger than your situations, no matter how big or small they are. Remember that I’ve never let you go in the past and remember My promise to never let you go in the future. When you ask for help, I’ll give it. You’ve got to believe that. Otherwise, you’re not really worshipping me as your God, but rather just looking for a handout from any source that might be able to give it. Your mine, Phil. I will always hold you…and you know it. So when you come to me for help, don’t doubt my ability, because deep down inside of you there is something that shouts of my majesty. I gave you that something and it’s there to guide you in remembering that I am God and I can’t fail.
17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
Phil, when you get the help and wisdom that you’ve asked for, remember where it comes from. Every good thing in your life came from Me. Your wonderful wife, your amazing son, your ministry, your friends & family, your possessions, your abilities, all of it. It came from Me. Remember that. Remember Me. I chose to shine on you and illuminate you, and the beauty of it all is that I will continue to do so because that’s who I am.

sorry for the delay in posting lately, it’s been crazy times in the Wing household. Here’s a bit of a recap of the “bigger” things:
- Amber’s grandpa passed away - hard but better
- Spoke at the first Outpour at Apex - what an interestingly cool night. One phrase - “old testament locomotion”
- The band started recording our first CD - 5 songs to make available for Apex - hopefully around New Years.
- Played with Milefive at Gathering Grounds - such a fun night. I love those guys!
- Car broke down…again. Not sure if it’s even worth fixing, but it’s the only car big enough for Gib’s car seat.
- Went to cousins wedding in MI and hung out with family up there. Love the fam…wish they didn’t live in that town.
- Constant discussion on the idea of Apex having a 3rd service due to overcrowding. Woah doggy.
- Gibson got sick for the first time - fever, puking, and lots of very sad faces
- Amber had her wisdom teeth taken out and the Dr. said it was the hardest one he’d ever worked on. Yeah, she’s hurtin’.
So, yeah, it’s been kinda nuts.
now for your viewing pleasure, my adorable son:

God remains…
