April 2006

Gibson Jude Wing came into my life around 8:30pm on Saturday, April 23rd, 2005. Today, he turns 1 year old.

It’s hard to believe a year has gone by already…but I’ve loved every second.

When Gib came into the world, I was pretty unprepared as a father. Obviously, I was quite inexperienced at this type of task so a lot of things caught me off gaurd. One of the things that I was least prepared for was a whole new relearning of love.
gib4
I realized that God made us with a much bigger ability to love than I’d ever imagined. He put within us a small glimpse of how He loves. I see that now because of my son.
gib5
Gibson, as cute and fun as he is, hasn’t really done a whole lot to earn my love. He doesn’t really serve me or encourage me, he doesn’t really understand quality time yet, etc. But ya know, even though he’s done nothing to earn it, I love him SO much. Usually, I wouldn’t love someone who hadn’t earned it…I’m just being honest. Or, maybe I shoud say, I wouldn’t love someone THIS MUCH if they hadn’t earned it. My friends earned it, my wonderful wife earned it, but Gibson didn’t. So why do I love him so much?
gib2
Because that’s what God created me to do…to love like Him…or as close as I can anyways. Gibson is my son - I’m his father - I can’t help but love him. Even if I tried not to, I don’t think it would work. I was made to love him like this. If true worship is responding to who God is and what He does, then seeing His fatherly love and and responding to it would probably come out in the ways of gratitude and imitation. So I guess you could say that I worship God by loving my son…and I really enjoy this worship!

Happy Birthday Gib!!! You’ve made our lives so much better this past year and I cannot wait to see what the next year will bring…especially when your sister arrives. I love you bub.

Last week I had the pleasure of taking a road trip with my brother. We left chilly Ohio behind and made our way down to the sunny Atlanta, GA. We were going to a conference called “Thirsty” which is basically a leadership conference for those involved in the college culture.

Seeing as how Apex has a few hundred college students, we figured it’d be a good thing to check out. Here’s a few highlights:

Spending 3 days with my brother was probably the coolest thing. It was great just to spend so much time away. We were able to catch up on some much needed brother bonding…even though he was on his computer for 7 of the 10 hours we traveled back home.

4 marks of a true worshipper - 1. Always asking “is God pleased with this?” 2. the knowledge of a “Big Picture” mercy at work 3. Transformation 4. Demonstration - Louie Giglio
I’ll definitely be changing the way I think. The question “does this please Him” should come up way more often than any other.

It was good to hang out with some of the One80 crew…including Mr. & Mrs. Ted Rastatter.

Matt Redman walked by us and I tried taking a picture…but he ended up looking more like a ghost…you can see right through him. Creepy.

The last day we were there, I decided to take a bunch of pictures of random lights…ya know, to go with the whole “true light” idea.
