Ok, I’ve struggled with this for a while but I think it’s time to come out with it. I’m man enough to admit that I often find myself enjoying the music of the following artists:

[disclaimer - phil does not necessarily support the views, opinions, and lyrics, of the following artists. he is merely stating that he finds himself oddly drawn to their music…blah blah blah]

clarkson
Kelly Clarkson - great hooks, strong melodies, and she’s a dang good singer.
timberlake
Justin Timberlake - his voice is so wierd, but he’s got a huge range. And dad-gum it, that boy’s got groove that not many white men can pull off.
peas
Black Eyed Peas - these guys are pop geniuses. Everything they write has platinum all over it.
mraz
Jason Mraz - for some reason, all of his stuff is so catchy…so darn catchy!
bedingfield
Natasha Bedingfield - she’s a good writer with an intersting voice. radio has killed her songs, but they’re good songs nonetheless.
paul
Sean Paul - ok, honestly, I have no clue. For some reason though, I always find myself bobbing my head to his music.

Ok, commence judging me…

my friend Joel is so cool that I decided to copy something he did on his blog.

List 10 musical artists you like (do this before reading the questions below).

Randomly:

1) Coldplay
2) David Crowder Band
3) Jimmy Eat World
4) Jason Morant
5) Switchfoot
6) Mat Kearney
7) Robbie Seay Band
8) Faded Me
9) Charlie Hall
10) The Fray

What was the first song you ever heard by 6?:

“Bullet” - I heard it on his website after Relevant talked him up so much. I really didn’t like it at first…then I couldn’t stop listening to it.

What is your favorite lyric of 5?:

I think that “Let my shadows prove the sunshine” is one of the best lines ever written in a song…think about it.

How many times have you seen 1 live?:

just once, but it was probably the best concert I’ve ever been to.

What is your favorite song of 7?:

probably “Tasting Forgiveness” - it talks about throwing away the trappings of being religious and really “tasting” the truth of Jesus.

Is there a song of 3 that makes you sad?:

“Hear You Me” from their Bleed American (or self-titled if you got it after 9/11) is kind of a sad song, but it’s also my favorite song on that album. It’s a song about losing a friend.

What is your favorite song by 4?:

this is a hard one because I like pretty much every song I’ve heard from Jason Morant. I guess I’d have to say “Lovely” off his City of Two Rivers EP. It’s a song written from God’s perspective to man. “Follow Me to the temple where we first met, it was love at first touch. Oh but since then your affairs have you down on your face again, down on your face…and I have done and will do anything to have you again my love, to have you again my love.”

How did you get into 3?:

My old roommate, Ryan, was a big fan. He started playing me some of their stuff and I was hooked by the creativity, drive, and fun these guys had with their music. That was back in the Clarity days.

What is your favorite song by 2?:

again, this is a tough one because I’m such a big fan. but I’d probably have to say either “Come Awake” or “Rescue is Coming” - both from the newest DCB album, A Collision

What is a good memory concerning 9?:

I went to a songwriters gathering in Jan. of 2003 and he challenged us to be “record keepers” for our churches. He said we should be writing songs that chronicle what God is doing in our context. I wrote “Sound of Salvation” because of that challenge.

Is there a song by 8 that makes you sad?:

Probably “Worth the Wait” but just because I know what the writer had to go through in order to have a premise for that song.

What is your favorite song of 1?:

for some reason, “Amsterdam” is the Coldplay song I always have in my head. It’s a hard one to choose though because I could listen to Coldplay all day long for a year straight and not get tired of their music.

How did you become a fan of 10?

I saw them on the Conan O’Brien show sometime last year and they played “How to Save a Life”. I really liked it but didn’t know anything about them. Now, their single “Over My Head” is all over the radio and I really dig it as well. I hear that they are Christians…don’t know that for sure though.

…absolutely hilarious!…and suprisingly insightful.
