October 2007

really been diggin’ some new music…courtesy of myspace.

William Fitzsimmons - I’m hooked. Some sad lyrics for sure, but a beautiful sound. Think Iron & Wine meets Postal Service. I’ve been listening to his myspace page nonstop for the last 2 days.

blistBlist - 2 of these guys are friends of mine and I’m really liking the ideas they’re coming up with. They’ve just got one song up so far, but it’s definitely worth listening to. Ambient but driving rock n roll. Joe & Karl, nice work.

Honorable mentions would be Jay Clifford and Alexi Murdoch.

I’ve also been enjoying some shows on the ole boob tube…
[stop chuckling at the fact that I just typed that word]

scrubsScrubs - in the last 6 months, I’ve really gotten hooked on this show. I may even be willing to call it my… [cue the dramatic music]… my FAVORITE show. It’s a good mix of stupid funny and smart funny. I find it hilarious…but for some reason, this show makes you think too. In fact, it was Zack Braff’s blog where I found out about William Fitzsimmons (above). I’m pretty excited for the final season to start on Thursday.

officethe office - I haven’t been able to watch this since the 1st season because it was on Thursday nights. Well, now my wonderful wife has been taping it for me so we can watch it together (yes, I said “taping it”…as in VCR. Yeah, that’s right. The original 3 letter abbreviation for video recording…none of that DVR crap). It is hilarious. Dwight will forever be one of the funniest characters in TV history.

Honorable mentions would be Chuck and Steven’s Untitled Rock Show.

What about you? Any myspace music I should be checking out? Or any shows worth watching (cheap cable…channels 25 and down) on the aforemetioned tube?

I got this email today and was so encouraged to see a band think bigger than just their concert…

BRING TOWELS AND SOCKS TO THE REMEDY TOUR!!!
Surely We Can Change Something. Here’s the deal, we would like this concert to leave more than just fuzzing memories of sonic happiness. We think it fitting for the night to include concrete expressions of remedy. Thus, we have contacted the local homeless shelters and asked them what they need most. They have informed us that towels and socks are the items most needed. Here’s what we would ask you to do: bring towels and socks to the concert! You heard correctly - BRING TOWELS AND SOCKS WITH YOU TO THE CONCERT! Don’t show up with out them. We will pile them up and drop them at the local shelter where there shall be much rejoicing.

Enjoy…share the love…tell a friend.

I’ve always been a fan of david crowder* band but usually just from the musical/lyrical perspective. This idea to “be the remedy” resounds with so much of what God’s been nailin’ me with lately. If it wasn’t for this dad-gum surgery, I’d be going to the show in Cinci…towels & socks in hand. Oh well, maybe I’ll just send some with my friends that are going. Just grateful to see a band I already enjoy doing something even bigger than music.

If you haven’t gotten it yet, the new DC*B album came out last Tuesday and it’s great. Maybe I’ll give a longer, more detailed critique later, but for now, this album has been a good thing for my ears, mind, and heart.
